Lourika

Hi, I’m Lourika,

I’ve always been the loud, outgoing girl with the camera!!
I have a weird sense of humor.
I love pretty light, laughing, good music, creative geniusness and puppies!!!
I do happy dances when I get a “wow” shot.

I discovered my passion for photography early in life while bushwhacking the African landscape on family outings. In 2011, I left Africa behind and traveled to Bangkok, Thailand to teach English.  I then later moved to Phuket, where I lived for 2 years to pursue my dream of professional photography.  I studied the Thai language and also got scuba certified while living on Phuket island.

I graduated from the MatadorU Travel Photography program in late 2012.  And in August 2013 I was contacted by the Namibian Tourism Board  to be the Official Trip Photographer for Solimar International‘s  #GoBigNamibia – Adventure Travel press trip.

In December 2013,  I came back to my home country of Namibia, where I am now a commercial photographer in Windhoek, specialising in weddings and engagement sessions.

I shoot exclusively with Nikon. I have a strong documentary approach to my weddings and try to avoid posing as far as possible. I hope you are interested in my work because you want unique wedding photographs that capture real beauty and emotion, rather than anything staged or posed. I don’t believe that there should be a preconceived formula to photographing weddings and prefer to photograph things as they happen.  When you look at your photographs, I want you to remember what your wedding day felt like.

I love small and intimate weddings. I love taking photographs of people who share my vision.

As an artist, I always have to keep pushing myself to try new things and the successes keeps me going and wanting more. I love the experience of capturing moments in time within still images.

My photography is about capturing the moments, and the essence of the person in those moments. My style is contemporary / photojournalistic where the aim is to photograph real unscripted moments.  I want to make a piece of art. I strive to make images which capture that special something about people which makes them shine. I feel my style is creative, narrative, quirky, soulful, memorable and magical.

I love the relationships that I build with my clients and the trust they have in me to deliver beautiful photos of their wedding day. I don’t take this responsibility lightly.

My dream is to one day work for National Geographic, publish a book and travel to every country on the planet!! Travelling broadens the mind, and I will never stop exploring; my bucket list is ENDLESS!! I enjoy being out in nature, spending time with friends and family and have long walks with my amazingly cute, white ‘wolves’, Tessa and Trey – who came with me all the way from Thailand.

In April 2017 I married the love of my life, and after photographing about 60 weddings, I knew exactly all the do’s and don’t’s when it comes to planning a wedding – and in my eyes, my wedding was damn perfect – so feel free to ask for advice when it comes to planning your wedding!

Be sure to check out my photography website, Lourika Reinders Photography, where I showcase all my travel photography work; and I also have a Travel Blog called Living Through Lenses where I share travel tips, info about Namibia and much more.
